CPI posts annual growth of 3.0 per cent

CHANGES TO CONSUMER PRICE INDEX IN SEPTEMBER QUARTER:

Quarterly change (annual change)

* Consumer Price Index – up 0.8 per cent in quarter (up 3.0 per cent annually)

* Food and non-alcoholic beverages – up 0.3 per cent (up 1.3 per cent)

* Alcohol and tobacco – down 0.5 per cent (up 4.4 per cent)

* Clothing and footwear – down 3.8 per cent (down 3.9 per cent)

* Housing – up 1.7 per cent (up 1.6 per cent)

* Furnishings, household equipment and services – up 1.6 per cent (up 6.0 per cent)

* Health – unchanged (up 4.9 per cent)

* Transport – up 3.2 per cent (up 10.4 per cent)

* Communication – down 0.5 per cent (down 1.0 per cent)

* Recreation and culture – up 0.9 per cent (up 2.3 per cent)

* Education – up 0.1 per cent (up 1.7 per cent)

* Insurance and financial services – up 0.6 per cent (up 1.1 per cent)
