The Terminator is back and sits atop the Australian box office, but the newest film in the blockbuster franchise was almost trounced by a bunch of cute little minions.
Terminator: Genisys, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Emilia Clarke and Aussie actors Jai Courtney and Jason Clarke, took in $4.7 million for its opening weekend to be the No.1 film in Australia.
The Despicable Me animated spin-off, Minions, was a close second after earning $4.6 million for its third weekend, according to the Motion Picture Distributors Association of Australia.
Disney’s Inside Out, another animated feature, was in third place with $4.4 million.
It was truly a week for sequels with Jurassic World at No.4 and Ted 2 lingering at No.5.
The recent adaptation of Thomas Hardy’s novel Far From The Madding Crowd, starring Carey Mulligan dropped one place to No.6, while Melissa McCarthy’s comedy Spy was in seventh spot.
Music documentary Amy, about late singer Amy Winehouse came in at number eight on its opening weekend.
Another musical film, Love and Mercy about the life of Beach Boy legend Brian Wilson, came in at No.10.
