Netflix will soon reach one million homes in Australia, according to new research.

The US streaming service has so far reached 855,000 Australian homes (9.3 per cent), which accounts for more than 2.2 million subscribers over the age of 14, since it launched in March, according to data from Roy Morgan Research.

Netflix doesn’t reveal its Australian customer figures, but the market research company has been tracking its growth and revealed household subscriptions increased by 118,000 in August.

The latest boost in Netflix subscribers follows increases of 133,000 in May, 152,000 in June and 166,000 in July.

“With a simple assessment at the change in growth rates since April, suggests Netflix is on track to reach 1 in 10 Australian homes in September, and to surpass the one-million-mark by October,” Tim Martin, general manager media Roy Morgan Research said in a statement.

Streaming rivals, Stan (the Nine and Fairfax Media joint venture) and Presto (a joint venture between Foxtel and Seven West Media) reach less than 1 per cent of homes each, according to the research.

The survey was conducted among an average monthly sample of 4385 Australians aged 14 or older from April to August.
