Australia is about to get a slice of 60s nostalgia in a new ABC miniseries following the story of seminal Aussie band The Easybeats.
The story of the country’s answer to The Beatles will be told in a two-part series following the group’s beginnings as a group of immigrants who met in a Sydney hostel in the 1960s.
The production also tells the story of Albert Productions, the recording company which spawned stars such as John Paul Young and AC/DC.
The group was also the starting point for its members Harry Vanda and George Young who went on to form a musical songwriting and producing duo who wrote hits such as Love Is in the Air, sung by John Paul Young, and produced early AC/DC albums including their debut record High Voltage (1975) and Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap (1976).
The Code star Ashley Zukerman will play Alberts founder, Ted Albert with newcomers taking on the roles of the band members.
Production on The Easybeats has just started in Sydney and it will screen on ABC TV and ABC iview later this year.
